Emotional Emancipation Circles are here October 18th 2018 saw the launch of the Emotional Emancipation Circles brought to you by Black Cultural Archives and Black Thrive. The EEC is a forum where black people can gather to discover ways of dealing with the many traumas we have experienced within our lives. Due to a computer error, the event appeared online as "booked up" so many people who wanted to find out more did not attend. The great news is that the circle is ready and willing for others to join it in the future, which means you still have a chance to come and see what the circle is about. Dr Erica McInnis did a fantastic job of hosting the launch circle, but due to confidentiality agreements made with the other members of the circle Black Thrive cannot tell you about the what was discussed, all we can say is we are thoroughly looking forward to the next circle! On the 8th of November 2018, we will meet again at the Black Cultural Archives in Windrush Square, Brixton. From 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM we will be beginning the process of healing and we are encouraging every member of the community to come and join in. Dates that will follow: · 20 December 2018, Key 3, 5:00pm-8:00pm · 10 January 2019, Key 4, 5:00pm-8:00pm · 31 January 2019, Key 5, 5:00pm-8:00pm · 21 February 2019, Key 6, 5:00pm-8:00pm · 14 March 2019, Key 7 (final session), 5:00pm-8:00pm The Seven Keys to Emotional Emancipation are affirmations of the work required to free ourselves as Black people from the psychological and emotional bondage of centuries of racism. These keys serve as conscious reminders of what we must understand, what we must tell ourselves, what we must seek out, and what we must do in order to free ourselves. They can serve as sources of support in moments of stress, challenge, strain, and whenever we are at risk of slipping into old habits, outdated thinking, and unhelpful patterns. The EEC keys unlock the potential for action in the service of emotional emancipation. In EEC (SM)s we tell each other our stories, read together, dance together, watch video clips together, practice mindfulness techniques together, manifest our future together and work in groups. EEC (SM)s are a black only space, free (as money should not be a barrier to healing), and individual sessions can be attended although the full course is highly recommended. Ground rules are circulated. For enquires regarding the course please email [email protected]. For enquiries regarding visiting BCA email [email protected] LGBT Circles We have set up Emotional Emancipation Circles which are currently running at the Black Culture Archives; all welcome. Also, we will be hosting an introductory session to the first ever LGBT+ Emotional Emancipation Circles. The introduction session aims to explore what EEC's are, what you can expect from them and also the dates of additional sessions. The introductory session will take place on 13 December 2018 at the Black Cultural Archives. Please sign up to our newsletter to find out more details.
